Description

MIEF2 (mitochondrial elongation factor 2) encodes a protein that localizes to the mitochondrial outer membrane and regulates mitochondrial fission. It recruits the dynamin-related protein DNM1L/DRP1 to the mitochondrial surface, promoting mitochondrial elongation. MIEF2 is also known as SMCR7L and MID49.

Protein Summary

MIEF2 is a 49 kDa mitochondrial outer membrane protein that acts as a receptor for DRP1, regulating mitochondrial fission. It contains a transmembrane domain and a coiled-coil region. The protein is involved in maintaining mitochondrial morphology and function.
