Description

ME3 encodes a mitochondrial NADP(+)-dependent malic enzyme that catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of malate to pyruvate, producing NADPH. This enzyme plays a key role in cellular metabolism, including lipogenesis, redox balance, and the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle.
