Description
MCTS2 (MCTS1 pseudogene 2) is a processed pseudogene derived from the MCTS1 gene, which encodes a protein involved in translational initiation and cell cycle progression. Located on chromosome 15q23, MCTS2 lacks an open reading frame and is not translated into a functional protein. However, pseudogenes like MCTS2 can regulate their parent gene expression through mechanisms such as microRNA sponging or generation of small RNAs. MCTS2 expression has been detected in various tissues and may be dysregulated in cancer.
Disease Associations
| Disease category | Pathophysiological mechanism | Genomic evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Cancer (general) | Potential dysregulation of MCTS1 pathway via pseudogene-mediated regulation | Limited evidence; expression changes observed in tumor samples |
