Description

MAGEA2 (MAGE family member A2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome Xq28. It belongs to the melanoma-associated antigen (MAGE) family, a group of cancer/testis antigens that are normally expressed only in germ cells but are aberrantly activated in various cancers. The encoded protein is involved in cell cycle regulation, apoptosis inhibition, and immune evasion. MAGEA2 is frequently overexpressed in melanoma, lung cancer, breast cancer, and other malignancies, making it a target for cancer immunotherapy.

Protein Summary

MAGEA2 is a 314-amino acid protein (UniProt P43365) belonging to the MAGE family. It contains a conserved MAGE homology domain (MHD) that mediates protein-protein interactions. The protein is localized in the nucleus and cytoplasm. MAGEA2 can bind to p53 and inhibit its transcriptional activity, thereby suppressing apoptosis.
