Description
LRRC4C (leucine rich repeat containing 4C) encodes a member of the netrin-G ligand (NGL) family of synaptic adhesion molecules. The protein contains leucine-rich repeats (LRRs) and an immunoglobulin-like domain, and functions as a ligand for netrin-G1 (NTNG1) and netrin-G2 (NTNG2). LRRC4C is involved in axon guidance, synapse formation, and neuronal connectivity. It is predominantly expressed in the brain and plays a role in the development of excitatory synapses.

Protein Summary
LRRC4C (NGL-1) is a 640-amino acid transmembrane protein with an N-terminal signal peptide, nine leucine-rich repeats, a C-terminal immunoglobulin-like domain, and a short cytoplasmic tail. It localizes to postsynaptic membranes and binds netrin-G1 (NTNG1) and netrin-G2 (NTNG2) to promote excitatory synapse formation. The protein is highly expressed in the central nervous system, particularly in the hippocampus and cortex.
