Description

KLK14 encodes a member of the kallikrein subfamily of serine proteases. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the active enzyme, which is involved in skin desquamation, semen liquefaction, and cancer progression. KLK14 is expressed in the prostate, skin, and other tissues, and its dysregulation is associated with prostate, ovarian, and breast cancers.

Protein Summary

KLK14 is a secreted serine protease of the kallikrein family. The mature enzyme is generated by proteolytic removal of the propeptide and is involved in extracellular matrix remodeling, activation of other proteases, and processing of signaling molecules. It is highly expressed in prostate and skin, and its activity is regulated by serpins and zinc ions.
