Description

KIR2DS2 is a member of the killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) family, located within the leukocyte receptor complex on chromosome 19. It encodes an activating receptor expressed on natural killer (NK) cells and subsets of T cells. KIR2DS2 recognizes HLA-C allotypes (primarily group C1) and triggers NK cell activation upon ligand binding, playing a role in immune surveillance and response to viral infections and tumors.

Protein Summary

KIR2DS2 is a transmembrane glycoprotein with two extracellular immunoglobulin-like domains and a short cytoplasmic tail lacking immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs). It associates with DAP12 adaptor protein to transduce activating signals. The protein recognizes HLA-C molecules carrying the C1 epitope (Asn80). KIR2DS2 is expressed on NK cells and a subset of T cells, contributing to immune activation.
