Description
KIF4A encodes a member of the kinesin-4 family of microtubule-based motor proteins. It plays a critical role in mitotic chromosome condensation, spindle organization, and cytokinesis. KIF4A is a component of the chromosomal passenger complex (CPC) and is involved in regulating the localization of Aurora B kinase. The protein also functions in neuronal development and DNA repair.

Protein Summary
KIF4A is a 1232-amino acid protein with an N-terminal motor domain, a central coiled-coil region, and a C-terminal cargo-binding domain. It functions as a plus-end-directed microtubule motor and is essential for proper chromosome dynamics during cell division. The protein localizes to the mitotic spindle and midbody.
