Description
KIF20A (kinesin family member 20A) encodes a motor protein belonging to the kinesin superfamily. It is involved in mitotic spindle assembly, chromosome segregation, and cytokinesis. KIF20A interacts with RAB6 and is essential for Golgi apparatus dynamics and vesicle transport during cell division. Overexpression is observed in various cancers and correlates with poor prognosis.

Mutation functional classification
Loss of Function (LOF)
Frameshift mutations (e.g., p.Glu190fs) predicted to truncate the protein and impair motor activity.
Gain of Function (GOF)
Not well documented; missense variants may alter microtubule binding but evidence is limited.
Dominant Negative (DN)
No confirmed dominant-negative mutations reported.

Protein Summary
KIF20A is a 890-amino acid kinesin motor protein with an N-terminal motor domain, a coiled-coil stalk, and a C-terminal cargo-binding domain. It localizes to the midbody during cytokinesis and is required for abscission. It also mediates RAB6-dependent transport from the Golgi to the cell periphery.
