Description

KDELR3 encodes a member of the KDEL receptor family, which is involved in the retrieval of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) resident proteins that contain a C-terminal KDEL motif. The receptor binds to KDEL-bearing proteins in the Golgi and facilitates their retrograde transport back to the ER, thereby maintaining ER homeostasis and protein quality control.

Protein Summary

The KDELR3 protein is a multi-pass transmembrane receptor localized to the Golgi apparatus. It recognizes and binds proteins with a C-terminal KDEL sequence, facilitating their retrieval from the Golgi back to the ER. This function is critical for maintaining the proper composition of ER luminal proteins and preventing secretion of ER-resident chaperones.
