Description

KCNK15 encodes a member of the two-pore-domain potassium channel (K2P) family, specifically the TASK-5 (TWIK-related acid-sensitive K+ channel 5) subunit. This channel is characterized by four transmembrane segments and two pore-forming domains. KCNK15 is primarily expressed in the central nervous system and adrenal gland. Unlike other TASK channels, TASK-5 does not form functional homomeric channels in heterologous expression systems and may require heteromerization with other K2P subunits to produce functional currents. The gene is located on chromosome 20q13.12 and spans approximately 8.5 kb.
