Description

IGFBP2 encodes insulin-like growth factor binding protein 2, a member of the IGFBP family that binds insulin-like growth factors (IGF-I and IGF-II) with high affinity, modulating their bioavailability and interaction with IGF receptors. It plays roles in cell growth, migration, and survival, and is implicated in various cancers and metabolic disorders.

Protein Summary

IGFBP2 is a 36 kDa secreted protein containing an N-terminal IGF-binding domain, a linker region, and a C-terminal thyroglobulin type-1 domain. It modulates IGF activity by sequestering IGFs in the extracellular space, but also exerts IGF-independent effects via integrin receptor interactions, promoting cell adhesion and migration. Overexpression in multiple cancers correlates with poor prognosis.
