Description

IGF2BP2 (Insulin Like Growth Factor 2 mRNA Binding Protein 2) encodes a member of the IGF-II mRNA-binding protein (IMP) family. The protein binds to the 5' UTR of the insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) mRNA and regulates its translation. It is involved in RNA localization, stability, and translational control, playing roles in cell growth, metabolism, and development. Variants in IGF2BP2 have been associated with type 2 diabetes and certain cancers.

Protein Summary

IGF2BP2 is a 599-amino acid RNA-binding protein containing two RNA recognition motifs (RRMs) and four K-homology (KH) domains. It specifically binds to the 5' untranslated region of IGF2 mRNA, enhancing its translation. The protein localizes to the cytoplasm and stress granules, and is involved in mRNA transport and stability. Its dysregulation contributes to metabolic disorders and cancer progression.
