Description
IFNA6 (Interferon Alpha 6) is a protein-coding gene that belongs to the type I interferon family. It encodes a cytokine with potent antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory activities. The protein is secreted by cells in response to viral infections and other stimuli, binding to the type I interferon receptor (IFNAR) to activate the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, leading to the expression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs).

Protein Summary
Interferon alpha-6 (IFNA6) is a 189-amino acid protein (signal peptide: 1-23; mature chain: 24-189) with a molecular weight of approximately 21.6 kDa. It is a member of the type I interferon family, characterized by a conserved alpha-helical structure. The protein is secreted and binds to the IFNAR1/IFNAR2 receptor complex, activating the JAK-STAT pathway to induce antiviral and immunomodulatory genes.
