Description
IFNA4 (Interferon Alpha 4) is a protein-coding gene that belongs to the type I interferon family. It encodes a cytokine with potent antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory activities. IFNA4 is produced primarily by leukocytes in response to viral infections and other stimuli, playing a critical role in innate immunity by inducing an antiviral state in cells and modulating adaptive immune responses.

Protein Summary
Interferon alpha-4 (IFNA4) is a 189-amino acid protein (signal peptide: 1-23; mature chain: 24-189) with a molecular weight of approximately 21.7 kDa. It belongs to the type I interferon family and binds to the IFNAR1/IFNAR2 receptor complex, activating the JAK-STAT pathway to induce expression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs). IFNA4 exhibits antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory functions, and its expression is tightly regulated in response to viral infections.
