Description

IFNA17 (Interferon Alpha 17) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9p21.3. It belongs to the type I interferon family and encodes a cytokine with potent antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory activities. The protein is secreted by leukocytes and binds to the interferon alpha/beta receptor (IFNAR), activating JAK-STAT signaling to induce an antiviral state in cells.

Protein Summary

Interferon alpha-17 (IFNA17) is a 189-amino acid protein (UniProt P01571) with a signal peptide (residues 1-23) and a mature chain (24-189). It belongs to the type I interferon family and shares structural homology with other interferon alphas. The protein is secreted and binds to the IFNAR1/IFNAR2 receptor complex, activating STAT1/STAT2 transcription factors to induce interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs).
