Description

IFNA16 encodes a member of the type I interferon family, interferon alpha 16, which is secreted by leukocytes and plays a critical role in antiviral defense, immunomodulation, and cell growth regulation. The protein binds to the IFNAR1/IFNAR2 receptor complex to activate JAK-STAT signaling and induce expression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs).

Protein Summary

Interferon alpha 16 is a 189-amino-acid secreted cytokine with a signal peptide (residues 1-23) and a mature chain (24-189). It contains a conserved interferon alpha family domain and forms a five-helix bundle structure. The protein is produced primarily by plasmacytoid dendritic cells and monocytes in response to viral infection.
