Description

IFNA10 (Interferon Alpha 10) is a protein-coding gene belonging to the type I interferon family. The encoded protein is a cytokine with potent antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory activities. It is secreted by cells in response to viral infection and binds to the interferon alpha/beta receptor (IFNAR) to activate JAK-STAT signaling, leading to expression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs).

Protein Summary

Interferon alpha-10 (IFNA10) is a 189-amino-acid secreted cytokine with a signal peptide (residues 1-23) and a mature chain (24-189). It contains five alpha-helices and two disulfide bonds (Cys1-Cys98, Cys29-Cys138) characteristic of type I interferons. The protein binds to the IFNAR1/IFNAR2 receptor complex, activating JAK1 and TYK2 kinases, which phosphorylate STAT1 and STAT2, leading to ISGF3 complex formation and transcription of interferon-stimulated genes.
