Description

GPR83 (G protein-coupled receptor 83) is an orphan GPCR with high expression in the brain and immune tissues. It is involved in neuroendocrine regulation, immune modulation, and has been implicated in cancer progression. The receptor is a class A rhodopsin-like GPCR and is conserved across vertebrates.

Disease Associations

Disease category Pathophysiological mechanism Genomic evidence
Glioblastoma Potential role in tumor growth and immune evasion; GPR83 expression correlates with poor prognosis PMID: 31085175
Breast cancer Overexpression in tumor tissues; may promote metastasis via GPCR signaling PMID: 29445144
Inflammatory bowel disease GPR83 expression altered in inflamed mucosa; possible role in T-cell regulation PMID: 25687263

Protein Summary

GPR83 is a 422-amino acid orphan GPCR with seven transmembrane domains. It shares homology with neuropeptide receptors and is thought to bind an as-yet-unidentified endogenous ligand. The protein is expressed on the cell surface and activates G-protein signaling pathways, including cAMP modulation. Structural studies suggest a conserved ligand-binding pocket typical of class A GPCRs.
