The GAS2 protein (UniProt O43903) is a 313-amino acid cytoskeletal protein with a calponin homology (CH) domain at the N-terminus and a GAS2 domain at the C-terminus. It localizes to the cytoplasm and cytoskeleton, where it cross-links actin filaments and microtubules. During apoptosis, GAS2 is cleaved by caspase-3 at Asp186, generating a fragment that enhances actin filament severing and contributes to cell disassembly. The protein is also involved in cell cycle arrest and differentiation.
