Description

GAGE7 is a member of the GAGE gene family, which encodes cancer/testis antigens (CTAs). These proteins are normally expressed only in testis germ cells but are aberrantly expressed in various cancers, making them potential targets for immunotherapy and biomarkers. GAGE7 is located on chromosome Xp11.23 and is part of a tandemly repeated gene cluster.

Disease Associations

Disease category Pathophysiological mechanism Genomic evidence
Melanoma Overexpression of GAGE7 in melanoma cells may contribute to immune evasion by modulating antigen presentation. NCBI Gene, PubMed: 10647931
Non-small cell lung cancer GAGE7 mRNA is upregulated in NSCLC tissues and associated with poor prognosis. PubMed: 19030170
Breast cancer GAGE7 expression detected in breast tumor samples, linked to hormone receptor status. PubMed: 15604238

Protein Summary

GAGE7 is a 117-amino acid protein belonging to the GAGE family. It is localized to the cytoplasm and may be secreted. Its exact molecular function is unknown, but it is thought to play a role in cell cycle regulation and immune recognition in cancer cells.
