Description

FOLR3 encodes folate receptor gamma (FR-gamma), a member of the folate receptor family that binds and transports folate (vitamin B9). Unlike other family members, FR-gamma is a secreted protein lacking a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor. It is primarily expressed in placenta, kidney, and certain hematopoietic cells, and may play a role in folate homeostasis and immune modulation.

Protein Summary

Folate receptor gamma is a 243-amino-acid secreted protein that binds folic acid and reduced folates with high affinity. Unlike GPI-anchored family members (FOLR1, FOLR2), FR-gamma lacks a membrane anchor and is released extracellularly. It is expressed in placenta and kidney, and may modulate folate availability in these tissues.
