Description

FCF1 (FCF1 rRNA-processing protein) encodes a component of the U3 small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein (snoRNP) complex essential for the early cleavage steps of pre-rRNA during 18S rRNA maturation. The protein localizes to the nucleolus and is required for ribosome biogenesis. FCF1 is conserved across eukaryotes and its dysfunction can impair cell growth and proliferation.

Protein Summary

FCF1 is a 218-amino-acid protein (UniProt Q9Y324) localized to the nucleolus. It is a component of the U3 snoRNP complex and participates in the endonucleolytic cleavage of pre-rRNA at site A1, a critical step for 18S rRNA production. The protein contains a conserved FCF1 domain and is essential for ribosome biogenesis and cell proliferation.
