Description
EIF4EBP3 encodes a member of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) binding protein family. The protein binds to eIF4E and inhibits cap-dependent translation initiation. Its activity is regulated by mTOR-mediated phosphorylation, which releases eIF4E to promote translation. EIF4EBP3 is implicated in cellular growth, proliferation, and cancer biology.

Protein Summary
EIF4EBP3 (4E-BP3) is a 100-amino acid protein that belongs to the eIF4E-binding protein family. It contains a conserved eIF4E-binding motif (YXXXXLΦ) and competes with eIF4G for binding to eIF4E, thereby inhibiting cap-dependent translation. Phosphorylation by mTORC1 reduces its affinity for eIF4E, allowing translation to proceed. 4E-BP3 is less studied than 4E-BP1 and 4E-BP2 but is thought to play a similar regulatory role in cell growth and metabolism.
