Description
EIF4E2 encodes the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E family member 2 (eIF4E2), also known as 4EHP. This protein is a cap-binding protein that shares structural similarity with eIF4E but functions as a translational repressor. It binds to the 5' cap of mRNAs and competes with eIF4E for cap binding, thereby inhibiting translation initiation.
