Description

EIF3K encodes the subunit K of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 (eIF3), a multiprotein complex that binds to the 40S ribosomal subunit and promotes the initiation of protein synthesis. eIF3 is involved in mRNA binding, ribosome recruitment, and scanning. EIF3K is a small subunit (25 kDa) that stabilizes the eIF3 complex and may play a role in translational control.

Protein Summary

EIF3K is a 25 kDa protein that forms part of the eIF3 complex. It interacts with other eIF3 subunits and contributes to the structural integrity of the complex. The protein is expressed in many tissues and is involved in the initiation phase of protein synthesis. Its precise role in disease is under investigation.
