Description

E2F2 is a member of the E2F family of transcription factors that play a crucial role in the control of the cell cycle and tumor suppressor proteins. It regulates the expression of genes required for G1/S transition and DNA synthesis. E2F2 can act as both a transcriptional activator and repressor, depending on its binding partners (e.g., RB1).

Protein Summary

E2F2 is a 437-amino acid transcription factor containing a conserved DNA-binding domain and a transactivation domain. It forms heterodimers with DP proteins (TFDP1/TFDP2) to bind E2F-responsive promoters. The protein is regulated by RB1-mediated repression during quiescence and released upon CDK-dependent phosphorylation. E2F2 is essential for normal cell proliferation and is frequently dysregulated in cancer.
