Description
DCP1A (Decapping mRNA 1A) encodes a core component of the mRNA decapping complex, which removes the 5' cap from mRNAs to initiate their degradation. This process is critical for post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, mRNA turnover, and nonsense-mediated decay. DCP1A interacts with DCP2 and other decapping factors to facilitate cap hydrolysis. The gene is located on chromosome 3p21.1 and is widely expressed.

Protein Summary
DCP1A is a 582-amino acid protein that functions as a scaffold and activator of the mRNA decapping complex. It contains a conserved DCP1 domain and localizes to processing bodies (P-bodies). It interacts with DCP2, EDC3, and other decapping factors to promote cap hydrolysis and mRNA turnover.
