Description
The CRH gene encodes corticotropin releasing hormone, a 41-amino acid peptide that plays a central role in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. It is synthesized in the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus and released in response to stress, stimulating the secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) from the anterior pituitary. CRH also acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain, modulating behavior, autonomic function, and immune responses.
