Description
CPEB2 encodes a member of the cytoplasmic polyadenylation element binding protein family. This RNA-binding protein regulates translation by binding to cytoplasmic polyadenylation elements (CPEs) in the 3' UTR of target mRNAs, controlling polyadenylation-induced translation. CPEB2 is involved in cell cycle progression, synaptic plasticity, and germ cell development. Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants.

Protein Summary
CPEB2 is a 554-amino acid RNA-binding protein containing two N-terminal RNA recognition motifs (RRMs) and a C-terminal zinc finger domain. It binds specifically to cytoplasmic polyadenylation elements (CPEs) in the 3' UTR of target mRNAs, promoting polyadenylation and translational activation. CPEB2 is predominantly cytoplasmic and shuttles between the cytoplasm and nucleus. It plays roles in cell cycle control, synaptic plasticity, and germline development. Post-translational modifications include phosphorylation, which modulates its activity.
