Description

CLIP1 encodes a member of the CAP-Gly domain-containing linker protein family. The protein, also known as CLIP-170, links endocytic vesicles to microtubules and regulates microtubule dynamics by promoting plus-end growth and stabilizing microtubule ends. It is involved in cell migration, intracellular transport, and mitotic spindle organization.

Protein Summary

CLIP1 (CLIP-170) is a 170 kDa cytoplasmic linker protein that binds to the plus ends of microtubules via its N-terminal CAP-Gly domains. It recruits endocytic vesicles and other cargo to microtubules, facilitates microtubule growth, and stabilizes the microtubule network. The protein contains a coiled-coil region for dimerization and a C-terminal zinc finger domain. CLIP1 is widely expressed, with highest levels in testis and brain, and its dysregulation is implicated in cancer and neurodegeneration.
