Description
CHST2 encodes a Golgi membrane-bound sulfotransferase that catalyzes the transfer of sulfate to position 6 of N-acetylglucosamine residues in keratan sulfate and other glycoconjugates. This enzyme is involved in the biosynthesis of sulfated glycoproteins and glycosaminoglycans, influencing cell adhesion, migration, and signaling. CHST2 expression is associated with various cancers and developmental processes.

Protein Summary
CHST2 is a type II transmembrane protein localized to the Golgi apparatus. It contains a sulfotransferase domain that transfers sulfate from 3'-phosphoadenosine-5'-phosphosulfate (PAPS) to the 6-hydroxyl group of N-acetylglucosamine residues. The enzyme is critical for the synthesis of keratan sulfate and sulfated glycoproteins, modulating cell surface interactions and signaling. Structural studies indicate a conserved PAPS-binding motif essential for catalytic activity.
