Description

CGB7 (chorionic gonadotropin subunit beta 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19q13.33. It encodes the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a glycoprotein hormone essential for maintaining pregnancy. The beta subunit confers biological specificity to the hormone. CGB7 is part of a cluster of closely related beta subunit genes on chromosome 19. Expression is predominantly in the placenta, with lower levels in other tissues. The protein product is a key component of hCG, which signals through the luteinizing hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor (LHCGR) to support corpus luteum function and early pregnancy.
