Description
CDC25C is a protein-coding gene that encodes a member of the CDC25 family of dual-specificity phosphatases. The encoded protein activates the cyclin-dependent kinase CDC2 (CDK1) by removing inhibitory phosphate groups at Thr14 and Tyr15, thereby promoting G2/M phase transition of the cell cycle. CDC25C is regulated by phosphorylation and subcellular localization, and is a key target of the DNA damage checkpoint pathway. Aberrant expression or mutation of CDC25C is implicated in various cancers and cell cycle dysregulation.

Protein Summary
CDC25C is a dual-specificity phosphatase (UniProt P30307) that activates CDK1 by dephosphorylating Thr14 and Tyr15, essential for G2/M transition. The protein contains a N-terminal regulatory domain with multiple phosphorylation sites (e.g., Ser216) that control its activity and localization. During interphase, CDC25C is predominantly cytoplasmic; upon mitotic entry, it is phosphorylated and translocates to the nucleus. CDC25C is a target of the CHK1/CHK2 kinases in response to DNA damage, leading to its inhibition and cell cycle arrest. Overexpression of CDC25C is oncogenic and associated with poor prognosis in several cancers.
