Description
CD163 is a transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the scavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) superfamily. It is primarily expressed on the surface of monocytes and macrophages and functions as a scavenger receptor for hemoglobin-haptoglobin complexes, facilitating the clearance of free hemoglobin and modulating inflammatory responses.
