Description

CCRL2 (C-C motif chemokine receptor like 2) is an atypical chemokine receptor that belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor family. Unlike classical chemokine receptors, CCRL2 does not couple to G proteins and is involved in chemokine scavenging, cell migration, and immune modulation. It is expressed on immune cells, endothelial cells, and various tissues, playing roles in inflammation, tumor microenvironment, and infectious diseases.

Disease Associations

Disease category Pathophysiological mechanism Genomic evidence
Inflammatory diseases CCRL2 modulates chemokine gradients, affecting leukocyte recruitment and inflammation resolution. PMID: 25246658
Cancer (e.g., breast, lung) CCRL2 expression in tumor-associated macrophages and endothelial cells promotes angiogenesis and metastasis. PMID: 28476875
Asthma CCRL2 variants associated with altered chemokine signaling in airway inflammation. PMID: 22922876

Protein Summary

CCRL2 is a 7-transmembrane domain receptor that lacks G protein coupling. It binds chemokines such as CCL19 and chemerin, acting as a scavenger or presenting ligand to other receptors. The protein is involved in dendritic cell migration, macrophage polarization, and tumor angiogenesis. Its expression is regulated by inflammatory stimuli and hypoxia.
