Description

CCNG1 encodes cyclin G1, a member of the cyclin family involved in cell cycle regulation. It is a transcriptional target of the tumor suppressor p53 and plays a role in the DNA damage response, apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest. Cyclin G1 interacts with CDK5 and other proteins to modulate cell proliferation and survival.

Mutation functional classification

Loss of Function (LOF)

Nonsense mutations (e.g., c.200C>T) are predicted to cause loss of function by introducing a premature stop codon.

Gain of Function (GOF)

No well-characterized gain-of-function mutations reported.

Dominant Negative (DN)

No evidence for dominant-negative effects.

Gene Ontology (GO)

• DNA damage response • apoptotic process

Pathways

• p53 signaling pathway

Protein Summary

Cyclin G1 is a 295-amino acid protein with a cyclin N-terminal domain. It localizes to the nucleus and cytoplasm, and its expression is induced by p53 in response to DNA damage. Cyclin G1 can interact with CDK5 and the B' subunit of protein phosphatase 2A, modulating cell cycle progression and apoptosis.
