Description

CCL20 (C-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 20) encodes a small cytokine belonging to the CC chemokine family. It is a ligand for the chemokine receptor CCR6 and plays a crucial role in the recruitment of dendritic cells, effector/memory T cells, and B cells to inflammatory sites. CCL20 is involved in mucosal immunity, inflammatory diseases, and cancer progression.

Protein Summary

CCL20 is a 96-amino-acid secreted chemokine with a typical CC motif. It binds specifically to CCR6 and induces chemotaxis of immature dendritic cells, memory T cells, and B cells. The protein is involved in homeostatic trafficking to mucosal tissues and is upregulated in inflammatory conditions. Its structure includes four conserved cysteine residues forming disulfide bonds essential for receptor binding.
