Description
The CAMP gene encodes the cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide, which is cleaved to produce the active peptide LL-37. This peptide plays a critical role in innate immunity by directly killing bacteria, fungi, and viruses, and by modulating immune responses through chemotaxis, angiogenesis, and wound healing. CAMP expression is induced by vitamin D and inflammatory signals, and its dysregulation is linked to infectious diseases, inflammatory disorders, and cancer.

Protein Summary
The CAMP gene encodes a 170-amino acid preproprotein (cathelicidin) that is proteolytically cleaved to generate the active 37-amino acid peptide LL-37. LL-37 has broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, disrupts microbial membranes, and modulates host immune responses by binding to formyl peptide receptor 2 (FPR2) and other receptors.
