Description
ATP1B1 encodes the beta 1 subunit of the Na+/K+ ATPase, an integral membrane protein responsible for establishing and maintaining the electrochemical gradient of Na+ and K+ ions across the plasma membrane. The beta subunit is required for proper folding, membrane targeting, and functional activity of the alpha subunit. ATP1B1 is widely expressed and plays roles in cell adhesion, signal transduction, and ion homeostasis.

Protein Summary
The beta 1 subunit (UniProt P05026) is a type II membrane glycoprotein of 303 amino acids. It contains an N-terminal cytoplasmic domain, a single transmembrane helix, and a large extracellular domain with three N-glycosylation sites. The beta subunit associates with the alpha subunit to form a functional Na+/K+ ATPase heterodimer, essential for ion transport and cellular homeostasis.
