Description

ARHGAP21 (Rho GTPase Activating Protein 21) encodes a member of the RhoGAP family of proteins that catalyze the conversion of active GTP-bound Rho GTPases to their inactive GDP-bound form, thereby negatively regulating Rho-mediated signaling. The protein is involved in cytoskeletal organization, cell migration, and adhesion. ARHGAP21 has been implicated in cancer progression and neurodevelopmental disorders.

Disease Associations

Protein Summary

ARHGAP21 is a 1048-amino acid protein containing a RhoGAP domain that inactivates RhoA, Rac1, and Cdc42. It localizes to the cytoplasm and plasma membrane, regulating actin dynamics and cell motility. The protein interacts with several partners including PKC and FAK, influencing cell adhesion and migration.
