Description

ANGPT4 encodes angiopoietin 4, a member of the angiopoietin family of vascular growth factors. It acts as a ligand for the TEK/TIE2 receptor tyrosine kinase, modulating angiogenesis, vascular permeability, and endothelial cell survival. ANGPT4 is primarily expressed in the lung and placenta and plays a role in both physiological and pathological vascular remodeling.

Protein Summary

Angiopoietin 4 is a secreted glycoprotein of 503 amino acids (precursor) that forms homodimers. It contains a coiled-coil domain and a fibrinogen-like domain, essential for TIE2 receptor binding. The protein promotes endothelial cell migration and tube formation in vitro and is implicated in tumor angiogenesis.
