What is Lipid Metabolism ?
Lipid metabolism encompasses the anabolic (lipogenesis) and catabolic (β-oxidation, lipolysis) pathways that regulate cellular lipid pools. Key enzymes include FASN, ACC, CPT1 and lipases. Dysregulated lipid metabolism drives obesity, NAFLD, atherosclerosis and supports cancer cell membrane synthesis and signaling.
