Description
VNN2 encodes vanin 2, a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored pantetheinase that hydrolyzes pantetheine to pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and cysteamine. The enzyme is involved in oxidative stress response, inflammatory processes, and leukocyte adhesion. VNN2 is expressed on the surface of neutrophils and monocytes and plays a role in cell migration and immune regulation.

Protein Summary
Vanin 2 is a 513-amino acid GPI-anchored protein with pantetheinase activity. It is primarily expressed on myeloid cells and cleaves pantetheine to generate cysteamine, a potent antioxidant. The protein is involved in leukocyte adhesion, migration, and inflammatory signaling. Its expression is upregulated in various inflammatory conditions and cancers.
