Description

TP53I13 (tumor protein p53 inducible protein 13) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17p13.1. It is a direct transcriptional target of the tumor suppressor p53 and is induced in response to DNA damage and cellular stress. The encoded protein is involved in p53-mediated apoptosis and may play a role in tumor suppression. TP53I13 is also known as PIG13 (p53-induced gene 13).

Disease Associations

Disease category Pathophysiological mechanism Genomic evidence
Colorectal cancer TP53I13 expression is downregulated; loss of p53-mediated induction may contribute to tumor progression NCBI Gene, PubMed: 12529312
Breast cancer Reduced TP53I13 expression correlates with poor prognosis; p53 pathway disruption NCBI Gene, PubMed: 12529312
Lung cancer Altered TP53I13 expression in p53-mutant tumors NCBI Gene, PubMed: 12529312

Protein Summary

TP53I13 encodes a 154-amino acid protein with no characterized domains. It is localized to the nucleus and cytoplasm. The protein is induced by p53 and promotes apoptosis, though its precise molecular mechanism remains unclear. It may function as a pro-apoptotic factor in the p53 tumor suppressor network.
