Description

RBM7 encodes RNA binding motif protein 7, a component of the nuclear exosome targeting (NEXT) complex. The protein contains an RNA recognition motif (RRM) and a zinc finger domain, and is involved in the processing and degradation of a variety of RNA substrates, including small nuclear RNAs, small nucleolar RNAs, and cryptic unstable transcripts. RBM7 interacts with the exosome complex to facilitate RNA surveillance and turnover in the nucleus.

Protein Summary

RBM7 is a 267-amino acid protein with a molecular weight of approximately 30 kDa. It contains an N-terminal RNA recognition motif (RRM) and a C-terminal zinc finger domain (CCHC type). RBM7 is a core component of the nuclear exosome targeting (NEXT) complex, where it recruits the exosome to specific RNA substrates for processing or degradation. The protein is ubiquitously expressed with higher levels in testis and spleen.
