Description

PEBP4 (phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein 4) is a member of the phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein family. It is involved in the regulation of cell survival, apoptosis, and the MAPK signaling pathway. PEBP4 is overexpressed in several cancers and is associated with poor prognosis, acting as a negative regulator of apoptosis by inhibiting the Raf/MEK/ERK pathway.

Disease Associations

Disease category Pathophysiological mechanism Genomic evidence
Breast Cancer Overexpression of PEBP4 inhibits apoptosis via Raf/MEK/ERK pathway suppression, promoting tumor growth and metastasis. PMID: 19029980
Prostate Cancer PEBP4 upregulation correlates with advanced disease and resistance to apoptosis. PMID: 21444671
Lung Cancer Elevated PEBP4 expression associated with poor survival and enhanced metastatic potential. PMID: 23429205
Colorectal Cancer PEBP4 promotes cell proliferation and invasion through ERK1/2 signaling. PMID: 25634884

Protein Summary

PEBP4 is a 227-amino-acid protein that binds phosphatidylethanolamine. It localizes to the cytoplasm and functions as a negative regulator of the Raf/MEK/ERK signaling cascade, thereby inhibiting apoptosis. Overexpression in various cancers contributes to tumor progression and therapy resistance.
