Description

PDE4C encodes a member of the type IV cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (PDE4) family, which specifically hydrolyzes cyclic AMP (cAMP) to AMP, thereby regulating intracellular cAMP levels. PDE4C is predominantly expressed in the brain and testis and plays a role in signal transduction pathways involving G-protein-coupled receptors.

Pathways

• cAMP signaling pathway (Reactome: R-HSA-163615)
• G alpha (s) signalling events (Reactome: R-HSA-388396)
• PDE4 regulation of cAMP levels (KEGG: hsa04024)

Protein Summary

PDE4C is a 712-amino acid protein containing a catalytic domain and two upstream conserved regions (UCR1 and UCR2) that regulate dimerization and activity. It specifically hydrolyzes cAMP and is inhibited by rolipram. The protein is expressed in brain regions such as the hippocampus and cortex, and in testis. Alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms.
