Description
MYO16 encodes myosin XVI, an unconventional myosin motor protein that binds actin filaments and is implicated in neuronal morphogenesis, including neurite outgrowth and dendritic spine formation. It contains an N-terminal PH domain and a C-terminal MyTH4-FERM domain, and is thought to function in intracellular transport and signaling. MYO16 is also known as NYAP3 (Neuronal Tyrosine-phosphorylated Adaptor for PI3K) and may play a role in tumor suppression.

Protein Summary
Myosin XVI is a 2148-amino-acid unconventional myosin with a motor domain, a PH domain, and a MyTH4-FERM tail. It localizes to actin-rich structures in neurons and interacts with PI3K to regulate cell growth and migration. The protein is predominantly expressed in brain and testis, with lower levels in other tissues.
