Description

GPR37L1 is an orphan G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) closely related to GPR37. It is predominantly expressed in the brain, particularly in astrocytes and Bergmann glia. The receptor is involved in neuroprotection, regulation of cerebellar development, and modulation of dopamine signaling. Its endogenous ligand remains unidentified, but it is known to couple to Gαi/o proteins, inhibiting cAMP production.

Protein Summary

GPR37L1 is a 613-amino acid orphan GPCR with seven transmembrane domains. It shares high sequence homology with GPR37 and the endothelin B receptor. The protein is expressed on the cell surface and in intracellular compartments. It constitutively internalizes and can form heterodimers with GPR37. Its signaling is primarily through Gαi/o, leading to inhibition of adenylyl cyclase. In the brain, it is essential for proper cerebellar development and astrocyte-mediated neuroprotection.
